Meditation is not about doing anything, it's just about being aware. It's a different type of effort to what we're used to. We aren't used to sitting still for long periods of time.
Don't worry about your mind wandering, especially if you have just started to practise regularly. All you have to do is to set aside some time each day and keep at it.
Give it Time
Most people have heard and read about the benefits of meditation before they start practising it themselves, so they come into it with high expectations. The benefits are proven, but remember that in these studies, groups have had extended periods of consistent practice before they see results (eight weeks, for example, for a study run by the University of Wisconsin) . Don't expect your world to change after just the first ten minutes! Keep at it.
